About Good Night Tales

What is Good Night Tales?

Good Night Tales is a service that creates personalized bedtime stories for your child. You provide your child's name, age, and interests, and our AI generates a unique story with audio narration and cover art.

Who is it for?

Parents, grandparents, guardians — any adult who wants to create magical bedtime stories for a child in their life. Stories are designed for kids ages 4-10, but we've had success with kids as young as 3 and as old as 12.

What ages does it work for?

Best: Ages 4-12 (sweet spot for story personalization).
Works: Ages 3 (with simpler language).
Coming soon: Teen-focused content (ages 13+).

Using the Service

How long does it take to make a story?

About 2-3 minutes per story. We use parallel AI generation to keep things fast.

What if the story doesn't generate?

1. Wait 30 seconds (we retry automatically)
2. Refresh the page (we'll resume your story)
3. If still stuck after 2 minutes, click "Generate" again — your original story is still being saved on the server in most cases
4. Email us at support@signalloomai.com if it keeps happening

Can I edit the stories?

Not yet in beta. Edit features are coming. For now, you can request a new story with different interests.

Can my child use this alone?

Not in beta. The service is for parents/adults to create stories FOR children. We're working on a kid-friendly mode for future releases.

What languages are supported?

English and Spanish in beta. More languages are on the roadmap.

What about the audio?

Each story comes with high-quality AI-generated audio. The voice is consistent across stories for your child.

Your Stories and Devices

Where are my stories stored?

On your device, not our servers. Each story’s audio and cover art live in your browser’s local storage (specifically IndexedDB, with a 200 MB soft cap). The story text, your child’s profile, and your library index live in localStorage alongside. This is the privacy promise: we cannot see your child’s name, your child’s stories, or what you played when.

This is also the trade-off: if you clear your browser data, switch browsers, or use a new device, your stories won’t be there unless you’ve saved them somewhere else.

What happens if I clear my cache or history?

Your stories, library, and child profile are deleted. There is no recovery from our side — we don’t have a copy. This is the price of the privacy promise above. Before clearing browser data, download tonight’s MP3 (or every MP3 you want to keep) and forward them to your own email or save them to iCloud / Google Drive / Dropbox. Treat each story like a one-night window.

Can I get a story by email as a backup?

Yes. Open any past story in your library, click the small “Email me a copy” button on the story card, and the MP3 plus cover art will arrive in your inbox within a few seconds. Email is the recommended permanent backup — it’s portable, easy to share with co-parents, and survives any browser reset. We can’t read these emails (they’re just delivery plumbing), so your child’s stories stay as private as they were in the browser.

How do I save the MP3 to my phone?

On the story you’re playing, tap the Download button under the audio player. The MP3 saves to your default Downloads folder. On iPhone, you may need to choose “Save to Files” from the share sheet. Once saved, it’s yours forever — it works offline, syncs to your photo library via iCloud / Google Photos, and you can email or AirDrop it to family.

Can I use Good Night Tales on multiple devices?

Not in beta. Each browser/device is its own library. After launch, we’ll add cloud-sync (opt-in, encrypted) so you can pick up on iPhone where you left off on iPad. Until then, use email to ferry a story between devices.

Privacy and Data

What lives on your device (we literally cannot see it)

This is the core privacy promise: a chapter’s full content (the script, the audio, the cover, your child’s name) lives on your device. We process it to generate the chapter, then hand it back to you.

What we store on our servers (the thin sync)

To make the story universe follow you across devices, we store thin metadata for signed-in accounts:

This thin sync is enough for the AI to write the next chapter with the same characters, themes, and unresolved threads — without ever needing your child’s name or the full story. It is opt-in: it activates when you sign in with the magic link, and you can revoke it from your account settings at any time.

What we never store

Is my child’s data safe?

Yes. We comply with COPPA. We don’t sell or rent data, don’t use it for advertising, don’t collect more than we need, use encryption in transit and at rest (AES-GCM with per-customer-derived keys for audio), and delete data on parental request.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, at any time. Email us at privacy@signalloomai.com or delete through account settings. Server-side data is removed within 30 days. Anything on your device is removed when you clear your browser data or click “Log out” in the dashboard.

What about AI training?

Your child’s stories are NOT used to train our AI models. The thin metadata we store is also excluded from training. All processing is done by trusted third-party AI services under their data processing agreements, which restrict training use.

Pricing and Plans

Is Good Night Tales free?

During beta, yes — full access for selected test families. After launch, we'll have free and paid tiers.

What will pricing be after launch?

The standard tier is $12.99/month (or $99/year, save $5/mo vs monthly). For an introductory period, you can apply our community coupon at checkout for $7.99/month (a $5/mo discount off the regular price) — the coupon is unlocked by filling out an 8-question survey, no account signup required. Pricing subject to change after the introductory period.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, after launch. You'll keep access through the end of your current billing period.

For Parents

Is this screen time?

It's a 2-3 minute story creation, then your child listens to the story. We'd argue it's a more meaningful use of screen time than passive entertainment. The stories become a shared experience.

What if I don't like a story?

Generate a new one. You can specify different interests. Each story is unique.

Can I use this for multiple children?

Yes! The dashboard supports multiple child profiles. Each child gets their own story universe.

What about bedtime routine?

Stories are designed to be calming and sleep-positive. Many parents use the audio version as a bedtime audio book.

For Grandparents and Family

Can I share stories with family?

In beta, no. After launch, we'll add secure family sharing.

Can grandparents create stories?

Yes! Anyone with an account can create stories for any child profile. This is great for long-distance grandparent relationships.

Technical Questions

What browsers are supported?

Latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. Mobile browsers on iOS and Android.

Can I use this offline?

Not in beta. After launch, we'll add offline mode for reading previously-generated stories.

What about accessibility?

The service supports screen readers, keyboard navigation, and follows WCAG 2.1 AA standards for accessibility. Email us at accessibility@signalloomai.com with any issues.

What if I find a bug?

Please report it at support@signalloomai.com. We read every report and prioritize based on severity.

About the Beta

When does beta end?

We're targeting late 2026 for a paid public launch. Beta testers will get 30+ days notice.

Will I have to pay after beta?

We'll offer a launch special for beta testers. If you don't want to continue, you can export or delete your data at any time.

Can I give feedback?

Yes, please! We genuinely want to hear from beta families. Email beta@signalloomai.com or use the feedback link in the dashboard.
